About Our Band Program
Symphonic Band
A non-auditioned ensemble that is open to anyone proficient on their instrument. The class focuses on developing fundamental musical skills through accessible repertoire. Students perform at all home concerts and athletic events.
Wind Ensemble
An auditioned ensemble that serves as the premiere classical performing ensemble for our school. The class provides challenging music and students are expected to put daily practice in at home. Students perform at all home concerts, athletic events, and various band festivals throughout the year.
Jazz Lab
A non-auditioned ensemble that is open to anyone proficient on their instrument, including non-traditional band instruments. The class focuses on developing fundamental jazz improvisation skills and teaching basic swing style. Students perform at all home concerts, athletic events, and travel to several competitions with the Jazz Ensemble. Any wind player enrolled in Jazz Ensemble must be enrolled in one of the concert bands (Wind Ensemble or Symphonic Band) with special consideration only made on a case-by-case basis after a meeting with Mr. Hartley.
Jazz Ensemble
An auditioned ensemble that serves as the premier jazz ensemble for our school. The class provides challenging music and students are expected to put daily practice in at home. This ensemble performs more than any other ensemble at our school. Any wind player enrolled in Jazz Ensemble must be enrolled in one of the concert bands (Wind Ensemble or Symphonic Band) with special consideration only made on a case-by-case basis after a meeting with Mr. Hartley. In addition, instrumentation in this ensemble is limited to trumpet, trombone, saxophone, drumset, bass, guitar, and piano. The Jazz Ensemble performs at home concerts, various festivals throughout the year, and select community events.
Jazz Combo
A student-led combo made up of a select members from our auditioned jazz ensemble. The student director of Jazz Ensemble is responsible for running this ensemble. They perform frequently at community and school events and compete at festivals that have a combo division.
Percussion Ensemble
All percussionists are in this course in lieu of Wind Ensemble or Symphonic Band. They learn how to master all aspects of concert percussion (rudimental, mallet, drum set, auxiliary) and perform their own pieces at concerts as well as perform with the Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble on their pieces at concerts and festivals. The drumline is also made up of members from this ensemble.
Pep Band
Our Pep Band is made up of all members of the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band. In the Fall we perform at all home football games, pep assemblies, and march the Homecoming Parade. In the Winter we perform at select basketball games and pep assemblies. Every other year in the Spring we march in the Starlight Parade.
AP Music Theory
Designed for students with more advanced skill and a strong interest in music, this course prepares students for the Advanced Placement (AP) Examination in Music Theory. The course integrates aspects of melody, harmony, texture, rhythm, form, musical history and style, and performance practices. Ability to read and write basic music notation is strongly suggested as a requirement for joining the course.
Our Band Parent Organization
The Band Parent Organization (BPO) is comprised of current Lakeridge Band parents/guardians. Community support is essential to the success of our students and the program. While the organization is largely run by a board, band parents/guardians are automatically members of the BPO. We will ask for your help throughout the year and look forward to your contributions to continue growing the amazing Lakeridge Pacer Band program.
A dedicated team of parent volunteers leads our organization, contributing their time and talents to support the growth and success of our band community.
